The first international summit about environment was held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, twenty years after the UN is again bringing together governments for the Rio + 20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development. The summit will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2012
Rio+20 will be a major international event this year. The objective of the Conference is to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable development, assess the progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development, and address new and emerging challenges Beyond the institutional adjustments, it has as an objective to reinforce the legitimacy and the credibility of the current devices of governorship. With this regards, the association of the nonofficial actors constitutes a key dimension.
With this in mind, the French Government organized last January 31st in Paris a conference where the role of the civil society in the international governorship of the environment was discussed, an issue which will be also tackled during the summit
Following this conference which brought together from all around the world politicians, private entrepreneurs, scientists a series of conclusions were drafted and propositions made, see the below texts:
